Porcelain veneers are a wonderful advent in dentistry. It allows us to make a porcelain or a glass product that fits over the front of your teeth. It's kind of like a brick veneer in a building. It doesn't cover the entire building, it just gives you the illusion that the building is brick.
Veneers do the same thing. We can make teeth whiter, straighter, longer, aligned so they look beautiful in your smile, and we can do that in a relatively short period of time because we have the ability to make them in-house. So now we don't have to wait weeks to get the veneers back from a laboratory. We can prepare the patient, scan the teeth, and fabricate the veneers all in the same day.
Porcelain veneers, a lot of people would benefit from the use of them. Someone that has discolored teeth, or worn teeth, or I get some patients that are adults and they always wanted to have straight teeth but they're not quite ready maybe to go to orthodontics. They may not need orthodontics. They just can have some corrections done with veneers.
We use a new technology, or relatively new in dentistry. It's called digital CAD/CAM dentistry. We can shape the teeth how we want to. And now we use an optical scanner to read the shape of the tooth and we send that to a computer. We design the fillings or crowns or veneers in the computer, and then we have a CAD/CAM mill or a technology that cuts our restorations, or our veneers or crowns or whatever it may be out of a solid block of porcelain. We do that right in the office. The patient can watch it being done if they like, and we get that done in about an hour or two depending on the individual case.
