What should I expect during orthodontic treatment with Invisalign?

Maintaining Your Smile after Invisalign
Wear a Retainer
Whether you use braces or Invisalign to straighten your teeth, you must wear a retainer to keep your teeth from shifting back into their old positions. During the first few weeks, you'll need to wear your retainer for about 22 hours a day. Eventually, however, you'll be able to reduce to nighttime wear only.
Practice Good Oral Hygiene
Keep your straight smile healthy by brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily. Be sure you always use a soft toothbrush and a nonabrasive, fluoride, ADA-approved toothpaste. Practicing good oral hygiene reduces cavity-causing plaque, keeping your teeth healthy between cleanings.
Visit Your Dentist
Your orthodontist may want to see you post-treatment to make sure your oral health is on track. You'll also want to be sure you attend routine dental exams and cleanings. These appointments give our team the chance to assess your oral health and detect any problems early on, while they're easier to treat.
I've heard of aligner attachments. What are they and what do they do?
Invisalign
SmartForce® Attachments
Aligner attachments help orthodontists make complex tooth movements without braces. They're small enough to be virtually invisible, and they apply the right amount of force to achieve the desired results. These tooth-colored attachments are applied to the teeth, allowing the aligners to apply gentle force when in place. While not every patient who opts for Invisalign will require aligner attachments, they are incredibly beneficial for those who need them. During a consultation at our practice, our dental team will let you know if aligner attachments will be part of your treatment plan.
