Timothy M. Kelly Newsletter E4D Same-Day Dental Crowns

Hope everyone’s work week is going well so far! Just wanted to send a brief reminder to all our wonderful patients about some technology you may not have been aware of.

I’m talking of course about the E4D technology for same-day dental crowns! For patients who’ve had dental crowns for awhile now or expect to get dental crowns in the future, you’ll want to take advantage of the benefits that the E4D system provides.

When it comes to convenience, E4D technology sets the standard for dentists and patients alike. No longer will you have to wait days or weeks at a time to get your dental crown fabricated. Your dentist also doesn’t need to use impression clay (that gray, goopy material) to create them now that we have something better.

How Traditional Dental CrownsWere Made

In the past, making a dental crown was a cumbersome and time-consuming process. If you needed a crown, your dentist would need to take a mold of your teeth and send it to an off-site dental lab. There, they would create the crown and send it back to our practice. Unfortunately, not only would patients have to schedule a follow-up appointment to receive the crown, but it would be weeks after their initial appointment.

It also means they would have to wear a temporary crown before their follow-up visit. Since temporary crowns aren’t nearly as durable or effective as permanent crowns, patients would need to change their diet or even eat on the opposite side of their mouth until their next appointment.

Even more frustrating, if the crown didn’t fit properly or the color didn’t quite match the other teeth, patients would have to start the whole process over again. This only created a large inconvenience for patients, which is exactly why we upgraded.

Including the latest dental technology makes a big difference for our patients. Thanks to the E4D CAD/CAM Dental System, we’re able to remove all the inconveniences of traditional crown production in one fell swoop. The system uses laser scanning to create a digital impression of your smile. This lets us immediately produce restorations with our in-office milling machine.

Since the impression method is digital, there’s no need for using clay impression goop anymore, creating a more comfortable patient experience. While we’re prepping your current tooth to receive the crown, the digital impression is transmitted to the milling unit, which produces a crown in about 20 minutes. After being glazed, polished, and placed into a kiln for about 15 minutes, your crown will be ready for placement. That means:

  • There’s no need for a follow-up appointment
  • There’s no need to wear a temporary crown
  • You get a more precise, tooth-colored, dental crown, bridge, or veneer.

All restorations made via the E4D system are metal-free porcelain or composite materials, so you don’t have to worry about harmful metals living in your mouth. They don’t cost any more than traditional crowns to make and their biocompatible, so your body is guaranteed to receive it properly and still be covered under insurance.
