Restore Gum Tissue Health with Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal disease (better known as gum disease) is one of the most common health problems in the entire world, and it is even the leading cause of adult tooth loss here in the United States. In order to guard against this harmful infection, it’s important to be aware of its tell-tale symptoms, including the following:

During routine checkups and cleanings, our team will always carefully review your oral health for indications of gum disease and address them accordingly with effective therapy options detailed below. If you suspect that you may already have gum disease, don’t hesitate to contact our Albuquerque location and schedule your first visit with Dr. Kelly.

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing can essentially be thought of as a professional dental cleaning that’s taken to the next level. During this procedure, our well-trained staff will target the areas under the gum tissue in order to thoroughly remove harmful bacteria (the “scaling” portion). Then, we will carefully smooth any rough spots on the tooth roots (the “root planing” portion), which are prime areas for plaque accumulation. By doing so, our goal is to promote healthy reattachment of the gum tissue to the roots and minimize your chances of experiencing further flare-ups of this infection in the future.

Soft Tissue Laser

Soft tissue laser treatment

With our state-of-the-art soft tissue laser, it’s become easier than ever for Dr. Kelly to treat moderate cases of gum disease. Our goal will be to use the laser’s focused beam of light to both sterilize infected tissue as well as remove specific portions of it entirely from the mouth in order to promote healing. The use of a soft tissue laser in place of a traditional scalpel and sutures is extremely beneficial for many reasons – it’s more comfortable, minimizes oral bleeding, and even accelerates the recovery process for treated patients.
