There were several factors that made me consider becoming a dentist. I was interested in engineering and medicine, but when I started dating my wife in high school, her dad was a dentist. He enjoyed his career, was well-liked, helped many people, had reasonable hours, and a desirable lifestyle. This led me to explore dentistry as a potential career.
I’ve always enjoyed being a dentist. My wife often says, "You never complain about going to work." I feel like I don’t really go to work; I go to see people. I tend to talk a lot with patients and get involved in their lives through our conversations. It’s a fun place to be with social interaction and the chance to help people.
My favorite part is when new patients come in feeling nervous and unsure about the experience, and by the time they leave, they’re thrilled with everyone and glad they came in. It’s rewarding to change their perception of dentistry for the better.
I want patients to feel they’re in the right place because no one likes going to the dentist. If they know the visit will benefit their health, maintain the life of their teeth or appearance, and be as comfortable as possible, they don’t mind coming in. Regular visits lead to better health over a lifetime.
