Dentures

Are you missing most or all of your teeth, making it difficult to eat or speak?

Dentures are a natural-looking option to restore the function and appearance of your smile.

Dr. Timothy M. Kelly in Albuquerque, NM, can craft traditional and implant-supported dentures for a fully functional and beautiful smile.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are artificial teeth that replace missing teeth on one or both dental arches. Dentures are designed to be a natural-looking solution that restores function to your bite. There are several types of dentures, and Dr. Kelly will share his insight and help you determine which best fits your dental needs.

Implant-Supported Dentures A Life-Changing Solution to Missing Teeth

Implants, which replace missing tooth roots, are the most complete way to replace missing teeth. Dental implants not only hold a denture securely, but like a natural tooth root, encourage rejuvenating bone growth to keep your jaw strong. Implant-supported dentures do not require messy adhesives to remain in place. Instead, they rely on the titanium posts inserted into the jawbone. This secure footing allows you to eat, drink, and speak without worrying that your denture will slip.

How Dental Implants Enhance Dentures

Dental Implants anchor dentures directly to the jaw
Dental implants allow the dentures to be anchored to the jaw instead of simply resting on the gums like traditional dentures.

Full vs Partial Dentures

If you are missing just some of your teeth, a partial denture can be used to fill the gaps in your bite and restore your smile. Just like full dentures, partial dentures can be designed to be removable or be fixed in place with dental implants.

If you are missing all of your natural teeth, full dentures may be right for you. Like partial dentures, they are crafted to look just like natural teeth and restore function to your bite.

Restored Function and Appearance

If you have a few missing teeth, partial dentures can restore your bite and allow you to eat a wider variety of food as well as give you an attractive smile.

All I can say is that Dr. Kelly is the best dentist I’ve ever been to, and I have been to a lot of them. He didn’t pretend to want to try to save my teeth. Others wanted me to spend a fortune on doing things to save the teeth I knew were going to come out sooner or later. For thirty some years I’ve begged and pleaded with dentists to take out my teeth and give me dentures. I have “soft” teeth, they’re prone to decay and breaking. It’s a genetic thing; my grandmother and father had their teeth taken out. I think some of my brothers and sisters might also have it. My one sister I know for sure does. In any case, Dr. Kelly asked me what I wanted to do. We worked out a plan, he built me new dentures that fit decent. Then we started talking implants. They were expensive, my insurance didn’t cover much of it. But it was worth every single penny. I still see him every six months. I highly recommend Dr. Kelly. As an aside, Dr. Kelly also makes beautiful turned wood pens and other things. They are gorgeous.

How Much Do Dentures Cost?

There are many factors that must be considered when determining denture cost such as:

Full vs Partial

Full dentures require more time and materials to create than partial dentures, therefore, they will cost more than a partial.

Dental Implants

Dental implant placement requires surgery, so there are additional cost factors when they are used for treatment. There are also charges for the implants and abutments, which connect the implant to your restoration.

Additional Procedures

Some patients will require additional procedures, such as extractions, before they can be fitted for their dentures.

Insurance Coverage

Dental insurance can help cover some or all of the costs, however, how much is covered varies based on your insurance.

Timeline for Dentures Our Step-by-Step Process

Traditional dentures can be fitted in a relatively short amount of time. If you are getting implant-supported dentures, you will first need to have implants placed and then wait a few months to have bone naturally grow around them and secure them in place. Once the implants have fused with the bone, your dentures can be designed and attached.

In addition to designing dentures, our Albuquerque practice can also manage repairs if you happen to break your denture.
In addition to designing dentures, our Albuquerque practice can also manage repairs if you happen to break your denture.
If you require extractions or implant placement, these treatments will be done first. The dentist will allow the gums and jaw time to properly heal before treatment continues. Healing time will vary by patient, and it can take several weeks to several months to fully heal.
We use digital impressions at our Albuquerque, NM, practice once the gums and jaw are healed. Digital impressions eliminate the need for messy putty impressions of your gums and mouth. The dentist will also match your dentures to the shade of existing natural teeth, or help you determine which shade you would like if you require a full set.
The impressions are sent to our trusted local lab. It takes about a week to create your custom dentures. At your fitting appointment, Dr. Kelly will make adjustments as needed to ensure a proper fit and comfort.
We will schedule follow-up appointments for adjustments. This ensures a comfortable fit and proper function. If you experience any pain or discomfort with your dentures, it is important to communicate with your dentist.

Maintenance

Traditional dentures must be removed daily for proper cleaning. Implant-supported dentures are fixed in place and stay in your mouth all the time. You care for them like natural teeth by brushing and flossing and scheduling regular dental checkups.
